Afrique Mode : an unforgettable cultural and family experience at the McCord Stewart Museum

I had the chance to attend the launch of the African Fashion exhibition at the McCord Stewart Museum, and it’s a moment I absolutely wanted to share with you. I went with my daughter, and together, we discovered a vibrant celebration of fashion, African culture, and the continent’s creative heritage.

That evening, we had the immense pride of seeing the creations of our designers Sarayaa and Jelani on display at the opening event. Seeing them represented in an exhibition of such magnitude, alongside iconic pieces of African fashion, was a highlight. Their work truly belongs there: modern, rooted, bold.

A Rich Panorama of African Fashion

The exhibition offers a journey through several decades of creation. It features:

• the musical and committed influence of Miriam Makeba,

• the unique and refined aesthetic of the Congolese Sapeurs,

• contemporary works that redefine fashion codes,

• historical pieces, textiles, photographs, and videos that show the evolution of African creation, from the 1960s to today.

It's a comprehensive exploration of fashion as a cultural, political, artistic... and identity-based expression.

A Recognition That Touches Us

We are also featured in the “Meet the Designers” section on the museum's website. A video presents my journey, my work, and the vision that guides our approach. It’s a great opportunity to share who we are and what we are building.

An Experience Shared Between Generations

Attending this launch with my daughter gave the event an even deeper dimension. Seeing her eyes light up before the colors, the music, the silhouettes... and hearing her ask questions about our origins and our creators was a precious moment. This is exactly what this exhibition allows: to create connections, transmit, awaken curiosity and pride.
